Update – Infected Blood Inquiry

In the 1970s and 1980s around 5,000 people with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders were infected with HIV and hepatitis viruses through the use of contaminated clotting factors in the UK. The Infected Blood Inquiry was set up to investigate this.

This week has seen a lot of local and national news regarding the evidence from former pupils and staff at Treloars. As this is local to our area we are mindful that this may be even more triggering for many.

The wellbeing of those affected by the issues being investigated by the Public Inquiry is of the utmost importance to us.

If you are affected by the issues raised by the Inquiry and would like to talk to someone please contact your local centre or call the SHN main number 01256 314793 and ask for the Haemophilia Team. SHN offices are open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

In addition there are some other resources that you may find useful.

The Infected Blood Inquiry provides psychological support for people participating in the Inquiry. Click here for details.

The Haemophilia Society support pages have a lot of links and articles on general support and specific Blood Inquiry related support.
